Time....

Thursday, April 24
"Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment, because it will never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we've lived. After all, we're only mortal."

If you have ever taken the time to reflect on your childhood, you'll see, as I did, that the best years of your life are usually around the age of ten. It is said that ten years of age is the greatest in your life. I feel that is because you are not looked upon as a toddler and/or a baby. Your parents started to give you some independence. Not too much but enough to make you think you owned the world. No longer confined to the house to play but that you could actually go over to a friends house or yard to hang out. It was a fabulous time in my life.

I was into Little League big time. I loved playing baseball. Whenever I hear a song from AM radio 1970's... I think of Little League. Weird. There were a couple of kids I hung out with on our block. We lived on the Northwest part of Sturgis, SD. My father was a large factor in my childhood around that time. Unfortunately for my youngest brother and sister, they never knew that side of their dad but one of non involvement and distance, for reasons he never spoke of when he was living.

Those days of my life were the most fun because the summer was never ending. Days spent at the outdoor swimming pool and playing baseball. That's what I remember.

Another time in my life that I think of often was moving to Billings, Mt. with Marnie. It was the first time in our lives where we felt truly independent, at least to me. Music plays a large part in my thinking about time in my life. It will always. I miss those time periods in my life.

For some odd reason, when I watch a certain movie, it puts me into this mood. That movie is..... Star Trek Generations. If you get a chance, even if you aren't into Sci Fi, watch it, the message is clear about time.

Cry Me A River....

As I sit here watching Game 3 of the Av's and Wild playoff game from Denver. I have to watch it on a Minnesota Network. The thing that sucks about that is I have to listen to the whining from the Minnesota favored announcers from 45 Network, St. Paul. I love the way they "think" they see favoritism by the officials when Minnesota is down a goal. But fuck!!! You would think it was a conspiracy.

The officials are letting them play the game you shitbirds so shut your cakeholes!!!

Go Av's!!!!!!!!!!!

As Veruca Salt Puts It.. "I Want It Now!!!"...

Some here in South Dakota, especially in Western South Dakota, are somewhat proud of the people who get out of the area to make something of themselves in the national spotlight of sorts. To name a couple, Adam Vinatieri plays in the NFL for the Indianapolis Colts, Eric Piatkowski plays in the NBA for the Phoenix Suns, Mark Ellis plays in MLB for the Oakland Athletics. But the pro athlete from Western South Dakota making a giant stink is Becky Hammon of the WNBA San Antonio Silver Stars.

Hammon has agreed to play for the Russian National Olympic Womens Basketball Team. After learning that she wasn't part of the American Olympic Roster, she decided that defecting to the Russian Team was the best option for her to play. She wanted to fulfill a personal dream of playing in the Olympics.

Many close to Hammon around Rapid City have decided to support her decision but a lot of people are fuming mad. I, for one have my pro's and con's about it... Okay, mostly con's.

The consensus with the supporters are: "She's local so support her..." My answer to that is she is an American. Heritage should have nothing to do with the Olympics. She lives and plays here. Hammon has made her decision to play a personal quest and has nothing to do with supporting her country of origin. Selfishness. I think ego has a major part in her decision and that is all.

On the flip side of the coin... I think being an American and representing it's way of life & culture of freedom to pursue her happiness we should keep our proverbial traps shut and let her do as she pleases no matter how Un-American "we" think it might be. In some sense, you have to admire her for a ballsy move and the potential backlash from locals when she returns... if she returns.

I'm not sure how people from all over the country, especially here in South Dakota, will receive Hammon upon her return from Beijing. It will be interesting if the Russians beat the American's out for gold on a game winning clutch shot from Hammon at the buzzer.

Winter Storm Advisory..... Right.

Thursday, April 10
Living in the High Plains has its downers. For one, winter can be a bitch or not so much. This year not so much. Over the last couple of days, The Weather Channel has been telling us here that a bitch of a winter storm is coming and that we should shit ourselves with fear. They actually have been telling us that since the end of October. Time and time again, nothing. Granted that the area here is in a "drought", we could use a good winter storm with a decent snow pack. Or we will be in for another dry summer.

I understand that forecasting the weather is a guessing game. But... people with Master's degrees in Meteorology should be more consistent. I want consistent weather forecasting goddamn it. I thought of schooling to become a meteorologist. You basically get paid to ... well guess. I can go to a carnival and get guesses.

So Weather Channel??? Give me some consistent forecasting!!!!

New Day Dawning.....

Monday, April 7
When I woke this morning, I was different in a small way. A difference nobody but me and one other person will ever notice. I woke this morning the parent of an adult. My daughter Kahlyn turns 18 today. It's not a big deal to anybody but Kahlyn, her mom and I. It is also my Mothers Birthday too.

So, Happy Birthday Kahlyn and Mom!!!

That Was Quick...

Wednesday, April 2
We enter April 2008.... where did the time go. Sure, winter seems as if it's gone on forever but again it feels like we haven't had one. Perhaps the lack of a snow filled winter makes it seem that way. I don't know. Anywho..... welcome to April.
