Ongoing Story IV

Sunday, March 15
With no where to go, he decides to get a motel room near the Airport. The cab ride to the motel consisted of the cab driver yacking about the event that he was almost involved in. Silently, he ignores the man and thinks back to the events after finding his younger brother. After the funeral, life at home changed dramatically. His mother blamed herself, his father blamed him but mostly the boy tried not thinking about it.

His mother and father eventually divorced and the boy lived with the mother. Times were much different than when the family was together. Money was tight as his mother took odd jobs doing alterations and some housecleaning. The spoils of a family core were no longer there. Christmas was a lonely time but his mother tried making it worthwhile for him. The father he knew was no longer around. He moved from the town they lived in and never looked back.

To make things in her life easier. His mother moved closer to her origins and with the help of her two older sisters and a middle brother, finding sustainable work was much easier and some normalcy and a little structure came to his life. His cousins were older and really didn't like babysitting the younger kin constantly. So, during this time the boy applied himself to school and learning.

The cab pulls under the overhang at the Tarmack Inn. Without hesitation he walks to the rear of the cab to retrieve his luggage but remembers that it is strewn all over the runway for it was on the flight he missed. The cabbie asks, "Is there anything else I can do for you?" The man pauses and collectively sighs, "No...", then turns toward the Inn's front door.

He slides the card key into the slot on the door and the little green light flickers as he pushes open the door to room 233. The door creaks behind him and slowly shuts. The Inn used to be a Holiday Inn at one time and the smell of the room reminds him of vacations he took with his family before the accident. He drops his carry on bag to the floor and flops onto the bed. He lays for a few minute listening to the hum of the large air conditioner until he dozes off.
